(Tweet from @PersonhoodAL that reads: “People are never vegetables, regardless of what doctors think their brain function is. #euthenesia [sic])
Those doctors, thinking they know anything about brain function. Devils, I say! We at Personhood Alabama are FAR more qualified to tell YOU about medical science!
Not exactly an abortion rights related post, but considering the source…yeah, I think it’s relevant.
Walk for Choice, NYC.
Sign reads: “Feminists fight back! Save Abortion, End Sterilization Abuse. Radical Women + Freedom Socialist Party.”
That link goes to the main FB event page, where you can RSVP, invite your friends, & find your local walk. We have walks taking place across the country, folks!
And if there’s not one near you, wear ORANGE tomorrow in support of choice!
Why abortion isn’t murder, Merriam-Webster edition
murder: the crime of unlawfully killing a person especially with malice aforethought
Note the following:
- Where abortion is legal, it cannot be murder.
It’s still under construction, but our amazing WFC team in Utah has been working hard getting things together. If you want to volunteer your web design skills, get in touch with them!
Mass exodus to Vermont, anyone?
I’m not sure if this is accurate. I don’t know of any “trigger laws” in IL. I could totally be wrong, though…
As Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels mulls a presidential run in 2012, he announced plans to sign a bill making Indiana the first state to pull federal funding from Planned Parenthood, a move that could boost his standing among social conservatives.
"I supported this bill from the outset, and the recent addition of language guarding against the spending of tax dollars to support abortions creates no reason to alter my position." Daniels said in a statement. "The principle involved commands the support of an overwhelming majority of Hoosiers."
The bill would cut $3 million in federal money the state currently allocates to the women’s health group. It also would ban abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy unless the woman’s life is significantly threatened, require women seeking abortions to be informed that life starts at conception, and require doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges in a nearby hospital.
All of my friends and allies in Indiana—my heart goes out to you. I am so, so sorry.
I just really am at a loss for words right now. If this doesn’t open the nation’s eyes to what’s happening to our reproductive rights, I don’t know what will. We can’t continue to let this happen.
Defend this anti-lifer’s: Porn Star Kasey Jordan just aborted 5th baby, 2nd this year…
YOU GOT ME
Not to start anything about peoples personal opinions on abortion but jesus fucking christ get a goddamn hysterectomy if you don’t want a fucking child instead of 5 abortions and 2 in one year.
For real. That’s just utterly insane. I don’t know how she can even produce them after all that…
Who the hell are you to tell someone else what to do with their own life? That’s incredibly arrogant of you.
“I went home to Oregon to have it because that is where I grew up. I was sick and on the couch all day,” said Jordan. “I think it might have been too soon to be Charlie’s baby, but you never know. I get pregnant very easily.”
I WISH HER MUM ABORTED HER!!!!
Wow, what the fuck is your problem, and why the fuck do you think it’s okay to spew hatred at someone you don’t even know? Just because you disagree with Kacey Jordan’s decisions doesn’t mean that it’s okay for you to be as hateful as you want when talking about her. Grow the hell up, for goodness sakes.
Lifers. If you really consider abortion murder, then stop saying this. Because if you look at it logically, rather than saying “I wish you were never born”, you are saying “I wish you were murdered”.
Either you’re a hypocrite because:
- This means that you don’t really consider it murder because you’re a decent human being and would never tell someone they should have been murdered.
- You do consider it murder, and you’re wishing murder on someone even though you believe that it’s evil and wrong.
That would mean I’d have to defend you, anti-choicers, for not allowing five people each to use your kidneys.
Existing in someone’s body requires permission.
There are, I think more than 900 bills that were filed during this legislative session and a lot of them are right at this sort of inflection point here of decision by their state legislatures. Unfortunately with a real sweep last November, these are much more extreme legislatures in terms of being against women’s health care access. We are working in several states to try to ensure that women don’t lose access to health care services but there are many bad bills pending and some have already been signed.
Walk for Choice, May 21st: We’re mobilizing the whole damn country in support of abortion access. It starts with Tumblr. It starts with Facebook. It starts with you.
Across the country, Roe v. Wade is becoming more and more irrelevant as the states implement tighter restrictions on abortion access.
When will it end?
Conservatives will not relent until abortion is outlawed entirely.
Can we afford that? No. We’re not going to give them our bodies—our lives. We’re not playing this game anymore. We’re not sacrificing the right to birth control, emergency contraception, or yes, abortion, for the sake of bipartisanship or anything else.
If we learned anything from Walk for Choice February, it’s that we all—just by virtue of being tapped into these social networks—have the ability to mobilize an entire nation. How incredible is that?!
You may have noticed we don’t have a “Participating Cities” link on the sidebar anymore. That’s because our website, WalkForChoice.org, should be functioning soon.
Here’s the link to our nationwide Facebook event, which has all the participating cities listed.
This is grassroots internet activism. We all have to pull together and annoy the hell out of our Facebook friends and Twitter and Tumblr followers. Every signal boost matters. Every reblog and retweet makes a difference. The cities that are already participating? We wouldn’t have come together without social networking.
So, if you’re pro-choice and you want to be heard, please come out to Walk for Choice on May 21st. If our representatives won’t defend our rights, then we will.
A mother sued an anti-abortion group on Tuesday for using her 6-year-old daughter’s image on a giant billboard in SoHo that some people denounced as racist and offensive.
The girl’s mother, Tricia Fraser, sued the Texas group Life Always over the billboard, which went up briefly in February.
Life Always did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The billboard pictured Ms. Fraser’s daughter, who is black, and the words, “The most dangerous place for an African-American is in the womb.” Some officials called it offensive to women and minorities, and it was quickly taken down by the advertising company.
The lawsuit called the billboard racist+ and the use of Ms. Fraser’s daughter’s image defamatory.
Oh, fuck yeah.
Life Always is the same group that has put up these awful “Every 21 minute, a potential future leader is aborted” billboards in the poor neighborhoods of Chicago.
Walk for Choice needs a Spanish translator!
I’d like to get our materials and website translated into Spanish!
If you or anyone you know is a native speaker or equivalent, please email me at ravengeary [at] gmail [dot] com. This would most likely be an ongoing volunteer gig. Please reblog if you have Spanish-speaking followers! It would really help us out! Thank you so, so much.
And remember: the next Walk for Choice will be on May 21st! Like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and most importantly, help us out with a signal boost if you can!
I am pro choice because I have seen a 12 year old incest victim deliver a child and then proceed to have a pulmonary embolism and die. She never had a choice not to have sex. She never had a choice to use birth control. She never had a choice to terminate her pregnancy. She never had a choice to live.
